I have been thinking about this for some time now. Google the idea "52 Cups of Coffee" (what I THOUGHT was my original title, Ha!) and you'll see I'm actually not the first person to conceive of a similar idea. But it's new to me and, with the new year looming, I've decided to make a new kind of resolution.
My goal is not to "fix" myself or alter old habits. It's not about fitness, finance or the future. It is, however, about friendships, fun and even -in a way- Face Book...
My goal is to connect, face-to-face, with many of you.
How often do we pay lip service to the idea, "We should go for coffee"? How well do we feel like we're connected to Face Book friends and acquaintances even though we have possibly not seen that person in years? (Or met them...ever?!) Social media tidbits are often superficial, at best. I am now striving, at least once per week in 2014, to make a "coffee date" with a different person or small group of people. Depending on the season it could also be brunch, a game of golf or a walk with the dog(s). Perhaps there will be a few road trips or else a java via Face Time. This obviously isn't about the caffeine although it oftentimes won't hurt!
My secondary goal is to keep myself accountable, and to journal a record of these reunions, via this blog. So if you are someone I went to high school with, someone I used to work with (and that will apply to many new people as of February...), a long, lost relative or even my current BFFs as we sometimes let long stretches go without seeing each other in the flesh, I am hoping you will allow me to recount some of our reminiscing here. Heck, as I am starting a new job imminently, even my husband will probably qualify as someone I need to slow down and re-connect with at some point! (Derek would never pay $5 for a Starbucks though - we'll likely fire up the Keurig machine on that occasion...)
I hope it doesn't sound contrived. I don't make resolutions annually but I really want 2014 to be about people. I look forward to lots of laughs, perhaps a few tears (?!) and a re-kindling of the many great relationships in my life.
'fourteen will be fantastic!
